Whether or not you ever believed in the adidas UltraBOOST line, it’s impossible to deny its influence on the footwear scene since launching in 2015. And while the series has enjoyed high-profile co-signs and collaborations, as well as financial success, it’s lost most of its appeal among savvy sneaker enthusiasts. Instead, the brand has shifted its focus on consumers looking for a reliable running model, which is exactly what the newly-unveiled UltraBOOST 22 is.
Identical in looks and technology to the UltraBOOST 21, the latest addition to the UB line has been specifically engineered around the female foot. More than one million foot scans were consulted to refine the 360-degree fit and feel of the UltraBOOST model, which had remained largely unchanged up until this year. The 21’s redesign delivered a much-needed update to the sneaker that started the BOOST craze, but it has been touted almost-exclusively as a performance-running model. Much remains the same with the latest mainline Ultra BOOST sneaker. although a partly recycled upper and comfortable foam around the heel address some of the issues the Three Stripes feels strongest about.
Set to debut in six colorways between December 6th and 9th, the Ultra Boost 22 promises the same energy-return of its predecessors – in particular its direct one. PRIMEKNIT+ construction throughout the upper follows the same pattern, while also boasting partly-recycled Parley Ocean Plastic yarn. Midsoles feature the same amount of BOOST foam as on the UB 21, with their drop remaining at a 10 mm drop. The shoes continue to promote the Three Stripes’ LEP (Linear Energy Push) technology and re-arranged stretchweb outsole with Continental™ rubber. Based on data from female runners, the German sportswear behemoth has included additional lugs on the outsole to create a more centered transition. Together, each aforementioned component creates an ultra-responsive ride, while serving a historically overlooked segment of athletes.
The Ultra Boost 22 hits adidas.com for members on December 6th and to the general public on December 9th in women and men’s sizes. Unlike every previous mainline UB option, the upcoming sneakers are priced at $190 USD, not $180 USD. As you wait, enjoy official images of the inaugural styles here below.
